So I've been over the rules a couple times and I swear all the information is just kind of blending together in my head between all the different classes. I would like to know if I'm able to run in BSP.
Car - 2005 Subaru WRX STi
Catless turbo-back exhaust. Short ram air intake, turbo inlet is stock. AccessPORT - Device that you can load maps onto. Currently running higher boost than stock, but pretty much everything remains stock on the ECU. Coilover suspension, lower than stock, higher spring rates. 245/40-17 tires on stock wheels(stock size is 225/45-17). Sparco Evo Seat with harness bar and 4-point harness (no cage). Aftermarket BPV which functions same as stock.
That's the only things I can think of that are done to the car, anyone know BSP well enough to tell me if I can run in it? I mostly ask because the only other class I can run in is SM and that's not a competition it's a slaughter hahahahahaha.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I saw it on TV so I'm pretty sure I can do it.

So it looks like the increase in boost is the only thing taking me out of BSP.... which I can easily switch back and forth between the "stock map" (when I'm on course) which leaves everything alone, and my "Stage II" map. Interesting. Thanks

Boost levels can be changed electronically, specifically allowed as below.
Ref. 2010 Rulebook Section 15.10.C.4.f , Street Prepared
4. Turbochargers and/or superchargers (“forced induction”) may not be added, changed, or modified (this does not allow ceramic coating of turbochargers). On vehicles originally equipped with forced induction: a) No hardware changes or alterations to turbocharger(s) or supercharger(s), in size or number, are permitted. Turbochargers or superchargers may be updated/backdated only in conjunction with the accompanying complete engine unit. b) No changes are allowed to waste gate(s) size, number, or location. No changes are allowed to variable-geometry turbine (VGT) hardware. c) No changes are allowed to supercharger drive system pulleys. Belt tensioners may be added/changed to reduce belt slip. d) No changes are permitted to blow-off/pop-off valves. e) Compressor bypass valves (CBVs) are considered part of the air intake system and may be added, replaced, or updated/backdated independently of the other components of a forced induction system. f) Boost regulation systems, either electronic or mechanical, and electronic fuel cuts referencing boost pressure may be altered or modified except as prohibited herein. Boost pressure changes resulting from authorized changes are permitted.
I wondered why you were running SM, I figured you had swapped to a different turbo. I normally run in ESP in the silver WRX. Last weekend my wife and I ran her red Camaro in FS. That was a fun course!

tank, you mean the one numbered 05? Or wait I think that's the 07 STi Limited. I swear all the Imprezas I come across are silver hahaha. I've been talking with Rob, and depending on the turn out at the next event, he might change classes. He needs some more competition, and thinks that if he moves out of SM it might attract some new life into the class. Not sure I agree with him wholly but, we'll just see how it works out. A slight problem with me running in BSP is that I don't think there are really many people running in that class either, which means I might just get bumped into ASP or something, in which case the domination onto me would continue hahah. I intend to swap a bigger turbo on the car later in the year, hopefully as well as some more suspension work. But, I'll cross that bridge when I boost to it

We run as 05 or 105 depending on if I or my wife are driving. My car is not remotely prepped for ESP, but I don't care. For me it is more about having fun and getting better than being competitive in a class. I don't want to have to fool with flashing my ECU for every event to get into a different class. When the point comes that I think I am a good enough driver to be competitive I will just buy a dedicated car for autocrossing and track days. If you put a high flow cat on the car and run stock boost, you could run in STU. That would probably be your best PAX multiplier if you plan on sticking with street tires for a while. You can run up to a 285 width street tire (good luck with that) and unlimited rim. Problem is, I think there is only the other STi in that class right now. If this is your first year autocrossing I wouldn't worry too much about changing your car around. Lots of people end up throwing a bunch of money at their DD car only to get beat by guys in 1989 civics. Then you let one of the civic drivers drive your car and they beat you by 5 seconds in it

+1, nothing is cheaper than driver development. Seat-time, seat-time, seat-time. There are several event sites of other regions close to us (e.g. Dothan, Jacksonville), so if it is about improvement on the AutoX course, spend a little money and travel for seat time. If you want to we can drive somewhere together and co-drive... Marko

If nothing else I'll add small things here or there like sway bars, but I'm not going to go nuts trying to prep the car for AutoX. The farthest I'll probably go is get a second set of rims with some slicks on them for the track, that's about it though. Now, there are plenty of power mods I'm going to do which have nothing to do with AutoX haha. Bottom line is that I just need more seat time

I would definitely like to get some more seat time, and I would travel to do so Co-drive huh, who's car??? hahah you are up too late... ;D Yes, yes I am, I need to go to sleep haha.

I usually try to avoid other local events on concrete sites because it is too expensive with my soft Hoosiers. We can co-drive either my Accord or your WRX...

Fair enough. I don't even know what association does any other events so, I dunno when the next one is or how much it costs haha.

SCCA has many different Regions (see map for the Southeast @http://scca.com/divisions.aspx?div=se ). Almost all of them have an AutoX program. The closest to us that have pretty good sites are Buccaneer which run in Jacksonville and Gainesville, as well as Wiregrass who run in Dothan AL.

Yeah I just started reading about those. Seems the next Buccaneer one got postponed, so it will probably be relatively close to our next AutoX. The weekend of Nationals looks like it's definitely going to rain, but we'll see. If it's going to rain I'm not going to go. I wasn't planning on running my car, just spectating and photographing.

I would be surprised if anyone can make an accurate weather prediction 10 days out. Are you coming to the Club meeting tonight?
