Yo, anybody home? Welcome to the "Newbie" section of the forum. Don't take the title personally, we were all newbies once upon a time. For me, it was right after that big snow melted and all the woolly elephants died, but that's beside the point...
We want to help new folks get started in SCCA, whether you're into autocrossing, track events, rallycross, or whatever. If ya gots a question, here's the place. We (my fellow moderators, whatever that means) will do our best to answer you, if we don't know we can find out, or you can go all Fred Sanford on us and call us "Big Dummies"... Well, let's not come to that...
OK, anyway, welcome to the forum. Lemme hear from you, if it's just to say hello.
Peace, Love and Pushrods- JD Kemp

Hello from Dothan, AL. I may be the newest newbie here. I have never attended an SCCA event, there are some local SOLO events but they are all non-spectator. Also, here in Dothan I can't locate anyone to pair up with to attend a SOLO. Pretty much a closed door organization. How do I find an event where they allow a person to come and check it out? Recent back surgery prevents me from driving now. Eric

I attended a wiregrass region event this past december and there were several spectators. So unless they've had some kind of policy change since then I imagine you could just show up and watch (be sure to get there early and sign a waiver). Once you're able to drive again I highly recommend attending a Dixie Region event. Before every race we do a special novice course walk were someone explains every element of a given run one step at a time. Ride alongs with more experienced drives are also welcomed and encouraged. See our for a list of events www.dixiescca.com/event-schedule.htmwww.sccawiregrass.org

Hi Eric- That "non-spectator" language is SCCA legal stuff. It means that the region can't charge admission for spectators or advertise to try to attract them. By doing that, the insurance for the event is cheaper. Dixie Solo events are the same, "non-spectator" type of thing. It in no way means you can't go and watch. We encourage folks to come and see what's going on. Wiregrass does too, they may just be a bit quieter about it.
Check out the website for their region, as well as ours. Try going to a Wiregrass meeting, chat with the folks there. Tell Cole Milstead I said "Howdy." Get better soon, and come see us!! (Hell, come DRIVE with us!)

Hey guys I'm very interested in attending my first autox event. I don't know if I will be able to make it this month, but I will most likely attend the August 15th solo event. I'm a newbie all the way when it comes to the SCCA. I've only watched videos online and read articles on the internet. When I do watch video though I catch my self tensing up and my heart racing, so I can only imagine what it would be like behind the drivers seat

Hello,
I will be attending my first event in Moultrie next weekend. I did the reg form but am unclear how payment works since the system does not accept online payment. Do I bring cash to the event or do you take cards there if I pay day-of-show? If I need to pre-pay, what is the process?
Thanks and I am looking forward to a great time!

Just bring cash or a check to the event, we don't do payment through MotorsportReg right now.

Yo Gman- Autocross is definately a cardio workout... If you do it right, when you get back to the grid area, your hands are shakin' so much you can't take off your own helmet! Good stuff... More fun than grown-ups ought to be allowed to have.
Sabrina- Paying is done on-site, like they said, no plastic, but cash or checks are fine.
Hope both of you can join the gang, and I pretty much guarantee you'll have a good time. JDK

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info! I will see you there and if it is as fun as it looks, will be back for the driving school in August so I can get my skills up to speed.

FYI- Plan on bringing something for lunch or running out to get something. Our awesome BBQ CREW won't be able to help us for this event. They'll be back in action in August.
