Some people have car ADD, but not my father and myself. We raced this Miata during the 04, 05, and 06 season religiously in Central Florida, and living in Tallahassee I made it to a few Pensacola, Dothan, Bainbridge, and SGMP/Cecil events. We made it to a few races in 2007, and I was at one in 2008. The car had mostly sat during 09 and 10 until August of 2010, when my dad wanted to start autocrossing again and paid to have the car ready to race.
Long story short, (ask if you must) the car is now up for sale.
It was purchased in March of 2004 with 113K miles for one reason only - to autocross - and it has done so extremely well.
It is a 94 black base model, no power steering, and now has 179k miles, 90% of which are highway miles driving to events. The paint is in good condition. The top will need to be replaced eventually, but looks OK and is mostly watertight, with only a small hole over the passenger side. The top has a zip-down glass window. The steering wheel was replaced with a (nicer) OEM miata leather-wrapped wheel which is in good condition. The plastic dash piece was replaced when we bought it in 2004 and still looks great. It has working a/c and radio/speakers - it was not a trailer queen. It was driven to and from events.
For autocross the following parts were installed in 2004 or 2005:
Koni Yellow fully adjustable shocks
Boss Frog clearview roll bar, black
Racing Beat 1.125 tubular fsb
Borla cat-back exhaust
drop-in K&n filter
trailer hitch
Other than those basic mods and the Icehawk Alignment there isn't anything special about this car, but it kills at autocross. Even with a crappy driver like myself, I fared pretty well. See PAX results (for Trey Christy) HERE and HERE and HERE
The car currently has oem miata "daisy" wheels painted gunmetal with Hankook RS Z212 tires, 1/2 to 1/4 tread remaining as "daily" tires.
Included with the car is the trailer we pulled to events behind the miata. It fits all necessary and optional tools and up to two sets of wheels and tires.
The car will also come with two additional sets of wheels and tires. Both are oem "daisy" wheels, one set with Kumho 710s with a few events left, and the other with Kumho victoracers with a half-dozen or more events left.
The following records are from Gem Mazda in Tallahassee, where I was living from 2004-2006.
4/12/04, 114,311, replace cam sensor O-ring, valve cover gasket, cam and crank seals, timing belt
4/16/04, 114,385, Change manual transmission fluid - replace with Red Line MT-90. Coolant System flush.
5/14/04, 115,132, Replace lower radiator hose, new alternator
7/13/04, 116,957, replace alternator belts and alternator bolts
12/03/04, 123,229, place cam sensor O-ring and valve cover gasket
02/24/05, 127,924, adjust drive belts, machine front and rear brake rotors
03/17/05, 128,319, replace clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout and pilot bearing
10/06/05, 141,318, new alternator
04/07/06, 149,321, new timing belt, water pump, cam and crank seals, drive belts
The radiator was replaced in 2005.
DIY oil changes were performed every 3-4k miles with Castrol GTX 10w30 high-mileage oil and Mobil 1 filters.
If you are serious about buying the car, I can find additional records from 07 and 08 if needed.
on 8/24/10, the following repairs were done to get the car ready to autox again:
new brake pads and rotors all around
new belts
new upper and lower radiator hoses and clamps
coolant flush
air/fuel induction service
the total with labor was $1126.15.
It still runs as strong as ever and is ready to race. It is ES legal and has regularly placed first in-class against large fields at local events, usually competing for a place among the top PAX adjusted times. It was a mid-pack finisher at Solo nationals in Kansas in 2006.
Asking $5,600.
