Hey Guys,
Thanks for making this newb feel so welcome! I had a BLAST and am going to go to the driving school so I can do a lot better next time.
General note to all newbs. If you are feeling nervous, DON'T! Today was my first event and everyone is so nice and helpful. Lots of different experienced autoXers rode with me to help me get familiar with the course and to give me good advice. I screwed the course all up on every run but no one takes it that seriously and you just get back in line and try to do better the next time.
NEWB NOTE: If you are going in the summer months, make sure you bring a coolor full of ice, towels to wet and wrap around your head and neck and an umbrella or tent for shade - it is HOT out there! You will get hot, dirty, sweaty and tired and LOVE every minute of it! I am really looking forward to the next event!

Hey Jonathan! Glad to have you aboard over here. You think you'll make it to August too? I think I talked to you and Andy right before you left.

Hey Guys and Gals, I guess I just previewed my last post and didn't actually post it! Anyways, my name is Taylor and I am from Thomasville. I have been interested in Autocross for years, but have never been to or entered an event. I never realized that we had an event so close, and from the looks of it, you are a great group of people. I plan on coming and watching/helping at the October Solo even. I will not be entering, as I have a Nissan Frontier, and the wife has a Nissan Xterra. Neither a good set up for Autox. I plan on buying an old Miata in the future, no time soon though. So of course after watching in October, I will be hooked, so I may just have to Autox some rental cars to hole me by ;D I look forward to meeting all of you!

Glad to hear you'll be joining us! Be sure to take a ride with Mr. Yearwood or Myself (Mr. Tillman) as we both drive old Miatas.

Hey Taylor! Yes, by all means come and visit with us, take a ride with somebody and let's feed that addiction!!!
If you think you want an "old" Miata, check out my avatar for a pic of the actual original design...
Seriously, a Miata is a great "starter" autocross car, good handling, not too much power, not too many bad habits. Good choice! I'm partial to RWD, but you can also find lots of recommendations for FWD cars as well, notably the Honda CRX.
I'd go with the Miata, but you can get opinions from both camps and maybe even a test drive some time if ya hang around long enough. If you do the "rental car" route, you'll likely wind up in a FWD. (Not that I've ever flogged the daylights out of a rented Neon or anything...)
Anyway, welcome to the asylum! JD Kemp

What's up folks? My name is Brett aka beevo. I drive a 2004 San Remo Red WRX. Someone left a love letter on my window tonight telling me to join...so I did. I'm sure a few people on here will know me from TallyImports. I've never AutoX'd before but have always been intrigued and have watched / ridden with a few buddies of mine. Look forward to meeting you guys!
Btw, I'm not used to this forum...but is this the equivalent of an intro? Haha.

Brett, glad to have you over here! My number is listed on the site along with my email if you have any questions about AutoX.
You should definitely come out. You have no idea what you're missing from straight line racing.

Good to see you got my note Brett! You might be interested in attending our meeting tomorrow night at Beef-o-brady's on thomasville road between 6:30 to around 8:30pm. There will be lots of people there that will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about autocross, rallycross or just motorsports in general.

Hey guys. I've attended your events at SGMP and when I get back from Afghanistan I want to make it to your event in November. I've got a technical question about seat belts. I just got through a restomod on a 68 camaro and want to get into the action but currently I have lap belts with no shoulder harness. The 68's had a ridged shoulder harness not retractable that did not come close to current new style shoulder harnesses. Any way I didn't reinstall it and was wondering if I would make it through tech inspection with a lap belt only?

Hi Russell- Ya know, anybody just comin' back from Afghanistan oughta get a break from us... Or should I say 'from the U.S.'...
Way back when my MGB was in stock class, I ran Solo2 with the 'lap belt only' kind of belts, which were replacements for the 'lap and shoulder' belts it came with and nobody questioned me.
I didn't look it up in the rule book, but I think you're OK, as long as you have working lap belts. (I'll talk to our safety guy, Jamey Bell, and check on it. Will get back with ya shortly, a week or so.)
You might want to consider getting a snap-in style harness for the driver's seat, use it for Solo, take it out for street. The diagonal one-belt shoulder harness doesn't hold you in place very well, but a true 4-point setup will keep you upright and centered going around corners. It really helps your concentration, steering inputs, and keeps you in front of the pedals. Sounds silly, but it does matter!
See ya soon, come home safe, Godspeed- JD Kemp
