I'm the guy with the ugly green 98 Civic Sedan, running novice the last couple of months.
I have a stock 97 S10 4.3 that I thought might be fun to drive at one of the meets. It'd give me the opportunity to run a RW vehicle. Other than "you'll be slow," is there any reason I can't/shouldn't bring it? Problems with eligibility? What class might it run in?

H-Stock catch all: "RWD pickup trucks (NOC)" as long as it's not lifted or 4-wheel drive. final approval of what is 'safe' is the Safety Steward.

Yeah, I understand that the safety steward would need to make sure the vehicle is in good shape to drive ... battery tight, no leaks, good tires, etc. I'd hate to drive my truck there, in hopes of putting in on the track, only to be told I can't drive because the vehicle model is not allowed for whatever reason. Who would I talk to about making sure at least that's not a problem?

It shouldn't be a problem. Trucks like yours have run before and they are classed in the rule book. Tech checks on the items you mentioned. I was pointing out that the final arbitor is the Safety Dance... I mean Steward.

I have a buddy that has a Lowered S10 Blazer, and he wants to run. Told him would have to see what they say

More often than not you will hear "no" to running a truck. There's definitely some verbage in the rulebook, but ultimately: "A Solo® event is open to any vehicle that can pass safety inspection, has the minimum bodywork specified by these Rules, and is properly muffled, except that vehicles with wheelbases exceeding 116” may be excluded by the Event Chairman if he determines, at his discretion, that they cannot readily negotiate the course" Section 3.1 of the SCCA Rule Book goes into much greater detail on the matter.

Many years ago we had a Street Truck class with several regular entrants. They were all lowered street pickups.

gmc cyclone and typhoon used to be classed in b-stock, now f-stock. Lightning was also classed at one point. a toyota "hot truck" was giving dsp drivers fits, and I remember a VW Rabbit p/u running at Divisionals a decade ago. Stock rwd p/u runs h-stock. 4-wd bad. awd good.
